From a manufacturing standpoint, using Hydrocarbon refrigerants poses some new challenges as these gases are flammable and potentially explosive. Therefore the manufacturing area requires a Safety zone and specialized equipment designed for use in this area. Consequently, VTech’s equipment is manufactured in accordance with Europe’s ATEX regulations which govern operator safety in potentially explosive environments. The Safety area, which includes the charging and refrigerant supply system, is continuously monitored for the presence and build up of flammable gases by use of infrared sensors. Automatic ventilation of the working area maintains a safe working environment. In case of unacceptable gas levels, power is immediately cut off from the charging unit. All of the high voltage electronics are located outside the Safety area.
While this technology is largely new in North America, manufacturers can fortunately gain from the experience of European and Asian companies that pioneered this technology many years ago. R&D/Lab Unit
The VTech Punto.HC is designed for manufacturers who are in the early stages of “specking out” their units for HC refrigerants. The charging system incorporates a scaled-down version of VTech’s RCB Remote Safety Control System to monitor the charging area for the presence of gas and take the appropriate action in the event that dangerous levels occur. Full Production Model
VTech’s full-production model for HC Refrigerants is VTech 200-HC. It includes a full version of VTech’s RCB Remote Safety Control System for monitoring the charging area and controlling the power to the electrical devices. As a way of lowering tooling costs and limiting machine footprint, the VTech 200-HC can also be equipped with a second filler for standard HFC and HCFC refrigerants.
