Recently a Northeast manufacturer of small specialty cooling systems installed a full line of leak test and refrigerant charging equipment. These units are specifically designed for a military application and contain a miniature compressor which only requires about 20 ccs of POE oil and a 120 gram charge of R134a.
The units are brazed, then moved over to a pressure testing area, before moving on to the VTech Gas Fill Plus system, which evacuates and charges the unit with a hydrogen/nitrogen 5/95 % mixture and using a Sensistor (Adixen) H2000 plus hydrogen leak detector, the operator sniffs the brazed joints for any possible leaks.
Once the leak test is complete, the unit is sent to the refrigerant charging station where the VTech 101 charges the system with refrigerant. The accuracy is ±1 g, which is important for the optimum operation of their unit. As a rule of thumb, the smaller the charge size, the more accurate it needs to be.
Finally, the system is run tested in a simulated working environment and leak tested with the PLD1000 infrared refrigerant sniffer. |
